Ravinder Singh is the Chief Information and Innovation Officer at Tata Singapore Airlines, known by the brand name Vistara, a full-service airline joint venture between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines (SIA). In his current role, Singh drives digital and business evangelism and transformation at Tata SIA, reporting to the Group CEO; his role also involves active participation with the Founders and Board.
Tata SIA kick started investment in “Digital transformation – Manthan” in mainly in three areas – Robotics, big data, bio-metrics and blockchain - with a significant emphasis on customer experience, decision making and talent development. In first phase of Manthan, the RaDa robot has been launched at New Delhi airport as the first robot in Indian airports to assist customers. At present, RaDa operates in the Vistara-Lounge at Delhi airport and assist customers by scanning boarding pass, talking to passengers, entertaining guests and does announcements in the lounge. In next phase of Manthan, a data lake platform has been established in December 2018 for intuitive, timely and complex analytics procedures of route profitability. The big data platform connects core system of records pertaining to commercial, finance, aircraft maintenance and flight operations, decision making of airline circles around where to fly next and how to improve the profitability of existing routes. Tata SIA has launched block chain based talent development platform for engineers in March 2019. India’s first facial biometric has been launched in few Indian airports as part of Manthan. Vistara passengers can enter the terminal, perform security check and enter boarding gate without any hassle of showing their boarding pass, ticket and id proof at every checkpoint. The benefits of the Manthan project: customer satisfaction has reported to have improved by more than 35%; with the deployment of robots, target operational cost has reduced by more than 50% in area of deployments.
